One of the worst feelings in the world, is to know, that you're all alone. That life has passed you by. That no one cares. That there is no purpose in life. Yet, that is in contrast to a relationship with God. That God loves. That He is with you. That He will make a way where there is no way. That He has a wonderful plan for your life.
In today's world, people strive to communicate. A woman speaks 25,000 words a day, compared to men, 15,000 words a day. I heard just recently, I heard that people send 4 billion texts a day. Imagine that!?
1. We all want to be heard.
2. We all have some thing to say.
3. We all have a life story.
Here, in 1 Kings 19. Elijah was in one of those down times. He was used by God to defeat the prophets of Baal. Then he gets some bad news that Jezebel, has threatened to kill him. Then he runs. He runs right after a victory (Now', where have I seen that before?). So he leaves his servant at Beersheba. Then he takes off for the desert. He goes without food and sleep. Then God sends an angel to feed him, for the long journey to Mt. Horeb. There, God speaks to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" Then he states his case. Yet, at the moment, he's in a funk. In other words, he's blue, tired, and depressed. He goes into the cave, kinda tries to listen to God's voice. Then then God tells him, relax, be cool. God is going to show up. Then, a wind, an earthquake, and a fire takes place. But he senses God wasn't in those elements. Then he hears a still small voice. 'What are you doing here, Elijah?" In other words, "Does it have to take all of this to bring you to Me?" And, isn't that just like us at times?
1. We do our best. Then somehow it doesn't work out.
2. We think the whole world is against us.
3. We tend to take a victims attitude. (With harp playing in background)
Then all of a sudden God speaks. He cuts through all the red tape. He proclaims, He knows exactly where we've been at, all the time. That we're not the only ones, who feel the same way. That He is an ever present help in time of trouble. That He was the same One who provided at the brook. That the fire that consumed the offering was not our own. It was Him. And Him alone! That now, its time to get back to work. That we must live life on a mission. So, today, or if this week you have experienced similiar times here's a few words of encouragement:
1. Your life is worth living because Jesus died for you.
2. Best place to find our selves is the place of prayer.
One of the tactics an enemy has, in war, is to cut off the soldier from their commanding officer. So it is with us. Life, with all its proirities, and distractions cuts us off from our Father in Heaven. Yet, we must run into that secret place of prayer daily. For He hears us, and intervenes on our behalf.
3. That what we need is God's wisdom. Not just knowledge, but wisdom. Many of us, are just too smart for God. We know it all. But only God knows it all. Everytime I think I know it all, God gives me a knuckle sandwich. Or I bump my head. Or I go back to school. The school of hard knocks. Hey! God isn't done with me or you. Elijah made some mistakes to where he found himself. That's why Solomon said, in Prov. 4:7, "above all, get wisdom." Wisdom is the application of knowledge.
4. If we don't take time to hear God's voice, life will get the best of us.
It's a dog eat dog world. In business, its the bottom line. In sports, its a championship or else. In traffic, its, "You have better get out of my way, or I'll run you over!" And that's the kind of world we live in. We need the Lord. I like a song by Fernando Ortega. He says, 'Give me Jesus!" In spite of everything, just give Jesus! Amen to that!
5. That God speaks to us daily.
I am convinced, that God speaks If we listen to the voice behind the voice. Hey, this week, God has a word for you. A word to change you. A word to direct you. A word to give you strength to face the difficulties of life. A word to bring joy to your soul.
It was after after WWI, and a man applied for a job as a telegraph operator. He walked in, saw about 43 people applying as well. He said, "Wow, how can I ever get the job?" But as time went on, he walked into the office. Then the manager came out promptly and said, "Gentlemen! The job has been filled. Thank you for your applications." Then they all began to complain and gripe. 'Hey, that man, just walked in. We've been here for 4 hours! It's just not fair! We were here first!" Then manager said, "Look buddy, All this time, the morse code has been going out. It's been saying, "If you understand this message, you can have the job. Come on in, its yours."
May God speak to your life today. Has God spoken to you in life? Get a chance, tell us about it. Have a great week
